College bus overturns on NH-44; multiple students injured

Hyderabad: Several students sustained injuries after a college bus accident on NH-44 near the Jio petrol station at Peddapalli in Balanagar mandal of Mahbubnagar district on Thursday.

The bus, belonging to Manikanta private college at Marikal in Narayanpet district, was travelling from the college to Jalavihar in Hyderabad. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid another vehicle, causing the bus to overturn.

At the time of the accident, 43 students were travelling in the bus. Locals and police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured students to the Balanagar government hospital. Doctors said all the injured students were in stable condition.

Minister Vakiti Srihari, who was travelling from Hyderabad towards Wanaparthy, stopped at the accident site and reviewed the situation. Authorities later used a crane to move the overturned bus to the roadside, after which the Minister resumed his journey.

Police said they registered a case in connection with the accident and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause. Traffic on the highway was cleared with the assistance of Jadcherla CI Nagarjuna, Balanagar SI Lenin and Rajapur SI Shivanand.
