Hyderabad: A cold wave has tightened its grip on Hyderabad over the past few days. Minimum temperatures fell below seasonal averages, and fog affected air travel. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum of 13.1°C and a maximum of 29.6°C in the city between Monday night and Tuesday. Relative humidity was reported at 34%.
Officials attributed the chill to dry northerly winds sweeping across the region. The temperature drop has been especially felt during early mornings and late nights. This has increased discomfort for daily commuters and outdoor workers.
Telangana sees single-digit lows, flights cancelled due to fog
Northern Telangana districts reported even lower temperatures under dense fog conditions. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at Tiryani in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, where the mercury dipped to 5.6°C. According to the IMD, several areas registered minimum temperatures nearly 3°C below normal.
Visibility was severely impacted on Tuesday morning at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. This led to the cancellation of at least three flights. Services to Delhi, Chandigarh, and Visakhapatnam were affected due to dense fog cover, airport authorities confirmed.
The IMD has forecast continued cold weather for the coming days and advised residents to take precautions, especially during early morning hours. Commuters have also been warned about reduced visibility during peak fog periods.
