Hyderabad: Chityal municipal election results recorded the first-ever victory of a transgender candidate in the state’s municipal polls.
Vote counting continued across the state. Meanwhile, the Chityal municipal election results drew statewide attention after Nagilla Kaveri Sudhakar won Ward 1 in Chityal municipality of Nalgonda district.
Sudhakar contested as an Independent candidate. In contrast, Nagesh entered the fray as the CPM candidate with Congress support. However, Sudhakar defeated him by 109 votes and secured election as councillor. As a result, the state witnessed its first transgender victory in municipal elections.
Chityal municipal election results give Congress nine wards
At the same time, the Chityal municipal election results handed Congress control of the 12-member municipality. Congress won nine wards and secured a clear majority.
By comparison, the BRS party won only two wards. In addition, Nagilla Kaveri Sudhakar won Ward 1 as an Independent candidate. Therefore, Congress dominated the civic body with a strong mandate.
In Ward 2, BRS candidate Azim won the seat. Similarly, Congress candidate Gali Yadamma Lingaiah won Ward 3. Congress candidate Koneti Ellayya secured Ward 4.
Moreover, Congress candidate Gundeboyina Srilakshmi Saidulu won Ward 5. Congress candidate Jeripothula Satyanarayana secured Ward 6. Likewise, Congress candidate Deshapaka Rajesh Latha won Ward 7.
Congress candidate Kukkala Mohan captured Ward 8. Congress candidate Erpula Paramesh won Ward 9. Meanwhile, BRS candidate Nimmanagoti Srinu secured Ward 10.
Further, Congress candidate Bobbala Ram Reddy won Ward 11. Finally, Congress candidate Pandiri Geetha Ramesh secured Ward 12.
Thus, the Chityal municipal election results confirmed a decisive Congress majority. At the same time, they marked a historic breakthrough for transgender political representation in the state.
