Chevella road accident probe names tipper owner as main accused

Hyderabad: A key twist emerged in the investigation into the Chevella road accident in Rangareddy district. As a result, police named the tipper owner as the main accused in the FIR.

The fatal accident occurred near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal on November 3. At that time, an RTC bus travelling from Tandur to Hyderabad was hit head-on by a gravel-laden tipper. Notably, the tipper came in the wrong direction at high speed, causing the Chevella road tragedy.

The crash killed 18 bus passengers and the tipper driver, taking the death toll to 19. Meanwhile, several others suffered serious injuries and remain under treatment, highlighting the severity of the road accident on Chevella.

Police said the investigation confirmed overloading and overspeeding as the primary causes. Therefore, they added tipper owner Lachhu Naik as the prime accused in the Chevella road mishap.

At the time of the crash, Lachhu Naik was travelling in the tipper beside the driver. However, he sustained serious injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment in a hospital, police said.

Chevella road accident probe focuses on overloading

Investigators said the accident occurred because the owner allowed the vehicle to operate with excess load in the unfortunate Chevella incident. Consequently, the vehicle lost control and caused the fatal collision.

Initially, police booked a case against the tipper driver Akash Kamble. Later, further inquiry showed that the owner played a key role in permitting the overloaded vehicle, central to the Chevella accident investigation.

Following these findings, Chevella police stepped up the investigation. Moreover, officials said further legal action would follow after medical and forensic reports on the road accident.
