Hyderabad: A California road accident claimed the lives of three members of a Hyderabad family and left two others seriously injured in the United States early on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Nazia Salma, 45, her daughter Hafeza Neha Shaikh, 19, and her son Hafez Omer, 14. The family belongs to Vani Nagar in Saidabad.
Nazia Salma’s husband, Shaik Abdul Naveed, survived the crash along with the couple’s seven-year-old daughter, Khatija Shaikh. Meanwhile, both are undergoing treatment at a hospital in California.
According to Shaik Abdul Sayeed, father of Abdul Naveed, the family learnt about the accident on Tuesday morning. They repeatedly tried to contact Naveed but could not reach him. Later, local police answered his phone and informed them about the crash.
Abdul Sayeed said police told the family that the car carrying Naveed’s family collided with another vehicle. Additionally, they informed him that the driver of the other vehicle also died in the accident.
California road accident prompts appeal for government assistance
The family appealed to the Union and Telangana governments to help close relatives travel to California. Further, they requested the authorities to preserve the bodies until family members reach the United States. They also sought support for the injured survivors.
On the directions of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, AIMIM MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj visited Abdul Naveed’s family at Sayeedabad Colony. During the visit, he expressed condolences and assured the family of continued support.
Meraj said AIMIM would extend every possible assistance during the crisis. In addition, he assured the family of legal support and coordination with the Indian Embassy, if required.
The MLA’s visit came as the family continued to seek assistance from the Union and Telangana governments for the treatment of the injured survivors and arrangements related to the deceased.
