Hyderabad: The BRSV Assembly protest ended after police stopped Bharat Rashtra Vidyarthi Samithi (BRSV) leaders and students from marching towards the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Friday.
The protesters gathered near the Assembly to press for several student demands. They sought the release of pending scholarships and withdrawal of GO No. 97 related to polytechnic colleges.
Police stopped the group from entering the Assembly premises. They also detained several protesters and prevented them from advancing towards the building.
BRSV leader Prashant Goud demanded the immediate release of Rs 12,000 crore in pending scholarships. He also called for the withdrawal of GO No. 97.
BRSV Assembly protest threatened stronger action
Goud alleged that the government had ignored problems faced by students. He warned that the BRSV would intensify its agitation if the demands remained unresolved.
He threatened to lay siege to the residence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy if the government failed to withdraw GO No. 97.
Goud said the BRSV would adopt stronger forms of protest if the government continued to remain unresponsive to the students’ demands.
The BRSV Assembly protest prompted police to increase security around the Assembly. Personnel restricted the protesters from moving towards the premises.
The BRSV leader said the organisation would intensify its agitation if the government failed to address the demands.
Police detained several protesters during the attempt to march towards the Assembly.
