BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath Passes Away in Hyderabad at 62

Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills MLA and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Maganti Gopinath passed away at 5:45 AM on Sunday at AIG Hospital in Gachibowli. The 62-year-old suffered a massive heart attack on June 5 and was rushed to the hospital, where he remained on ventilator support in critical condition until his death. Doctors officially confirmed his passing early this morning.

Maganti Gopinath began his political career in 1983 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), inspired by its founder, N.T. Rama Rao. He served as president of Telugu Yuvatha, TDP’s youth wing, from 1985 to 1992, and as director of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1987 and 1988.From 1988 to 1993, he led the District Consumer Forum and took on several roles, including heading the TDP’s Hyderabad district unit.

In 2014, Maganti clinched the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat for TDP in Telangana’s general elections. He switched to BRS later and triumphed in the 2018 snap polls, beating Congress rival P. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy by 16,004 votes. That term, he contributed as a member of the Telangana Assembly’s Public Estimates Committee (PEC).His win again in 2024 reinforced his prominence as a leading BRS voice in Greater Hyderabad.

News of his death has jolted political circles across the spectrum. Condolences have come in from all quarters, with leaders recalling his steady presence and quiet strength during Telangana’s politically volatile years. Many described him as a bridge-builder someone who stayed loyal, avoided noise, and earned trust the old-fashioned way: by showing up and doing the work.
