HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, has called for the immediate implementation of Scheduled Caste (SC) classification in Telangana. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Reddy emphasized the party’s genuine commitment to this cause and urged the Congress-led state government to act promptly.
Reddy highlighted that during the tenure of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the BRS had passed a resolution favoring SC classification. He lamented that if the Parliament had approved it then, the benefits would have already reached the Madiga community. He criticized both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not amending the law in Parliament to facilitate this classification.
The BRS leader demanded that the state government implement SC classification in all upcoming recruitment processes. He also insisted that local body elections in the state should only be conducted after the classification is put into effect.
Earlier, the Telangana Assembly approved the SC Classification Bill, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressing satisfaction over resolving this longstanding issue during his tenure. He noted that within an hour of the Supreme Court’s verdict, the state government announced a favorable decision and approved the Shamim Akhtar Commission’s report without any alterations.
