Hyderabad: BRS senior leader RS Praveen Kumar has sharply criticised the Congress government in Telangana for its decision to shut down the Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women, calling it a betrayal of the aspirations of thousands of students from marginalised backgrounds.
In a statement posted by the BRS Party on Twitter on Thursday, Praveen Kumar said the closure of the Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women would crush the dreams of young people who had set their sights on careers in the armed forces. “This college was a gateway for countless aspirants from disadvantaged communities. By shutting it down, the Congress government has dealt a cruel blow to their hopes,” he charged.
He also alleged that the government was deliberately undermining Gurukul institutions like Gowlidoddi, which he credited with producing hundreds of doctors, by removing the BIPC group from their curriculum. “This is nothing but a calculated attempt to dismantle educational opportunities for marginalised students,” he said.
Praveen Kumar questioned the Congress government’s commitment to constitutional values, pointing out that while Rahul Gandhi parades the Constitution across the country, his own party’s government in Telangana is violating Articles 14, 17, and 21 — the rights to equality, protection against untouchability, and the right to live with dignity.
“Is this the change people voted for — making children clean toilets? Is this the meaning of public governance — humiliating the poor?” he asked.
He demanded to know if Congress leaders’ own children in private schools are asked to clean toilets, or whether ministers themselves wield brooms in their offices. “Does Revanth Reddy clean his own bathroom at home? Or is this humiliation reserved for the poor?” he challenged.
Praveen Kumar called on the Congress government to respect the dignity and opportunities of Telangana’s marginalised youth and to reverse its decision on the Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women.
