Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday ruled out a BRS BJP alliance for the 2028 Telangana Assembly elections, saying his party would not enter an electoral tie-up with the BJP. “There will be no alliance with the BJP,” Rama Rao said while addressing students at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana.
The BRS MLA delivered a Distinguished Public Lecture titled “Innovation in Governance: The Story of a Startup State.” During the interaction, he addressed political, technological and administrative issues.
Rama Rao also discussed parliamentary delimitation. He said the BRS would not oppose a delimitation Bill if any expansion of Lok Sabha seats took place proportionately across regions.
BRS BJP alliance ruled out as KTR discusses delimitation
Rama Rao raised concerns about the possible dilution of southern states’ representation during the delimitation process.
He said southern states currently accounted for about 24 per cent of Lok Sabha seats. He argued that their proportional representation should remain protected during any redistribution. Official figures also put the five southern states’ current share at 23.76 per cent.
The remarks on delimitation formed part of a broader discussion after Rama Rao ruled out a BRS BJP alliance for the next Telangana Assembly election. Turning to Artificial Intelligence, the BRS leader rejected alarmist concerns over technological change and automated displacement.
“Every major transition in technology was initially questioned, and AI is no different. We need to adopt it and move forward,” he said. Rama Rao compared concerns surrounding AI with reactions to earlier technological transitions. He argued that adoption, rather than resistance, should guide the response to emerging technology.
BRS BJP alliance remarks come during governance lecture
Rama Rao also outlined Telangana’s development trajectory during the lecture. He described the approach through what he called the twin principles of “certainty and possibility.”
According to him, effective governance first needed to provide certainty through dependable public services and strong basic infrastructure. He said such foundations could subsequently create conditions for innovation, entrepreneurship and wider economic opportunities.
Rama Rao also highlighted initiatives in irrigation, electricity, drinking water and agriculture undertaken during the BRS administration. In particular, he cited the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project while discussing efforts to address the region’s historical drought conditions.
He also cited an increase in Telangana’s rice production during the period. According to the figures presented by Rama Rao, production rose from 44.4 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to 168.8 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
