10-year-old boy killed as roof collapses at Guntakal railway station

Hyderabad: A tragic incident occurred at Guntakal railway station in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district late Friday night, where a 10-year-old boy lost his life after a section of the station’s roof collapsed.

The child, accompanied by his parents Venkateshwarlu and Sharvani from Kurnool, had arrived at the station with his sister as part of a pilgrimage trip to Rameswaram. Around midnight, while the family was resting in the waiting hall, a portion of the ceiling suddenly gave way and struck the boy on the head.

He was immediately rushed to Guntakal hospital, and later transferred to Anantapur Government Hospital. He was again shifted to a private hospital for advanced care where he succumbed to the injuries.

The boy’s body has been kept at the Anantapur Government Hospital mortuary. Grieving and enraged, his parents squarely blamed railway authorities for negligence, holding them accountable for the fatal lapse in infrastructure safety.

Local police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
