Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday expressed confidence that the BJP would win the Jubilee Hills by-election, stating the party had surged ahead in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls while BRS fell to third.
Speaking at a press meet in Somajiguda, Reddy dismissed ongoing election surveys as unreliable. He accused the BRS of neglecting basic civic issues for 11 years, including overflowing drains, broken streetlights, and poor water supply in slum areas. He said BRS promised to make Hyderabad a global city but only “painted a few roads and called it development.”
Reddy claimed civic bodies like GHMC and HMWSSB were facing financial collapse, with unpaid contractors pleading for dues. He also targeted the Congress government, stating its “six guarantees” remained unfulfilled and accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of focusing on Majlis approval instead of governance.
He labelled the Congress threat of stopping rice supply if it lost the seat as “unreasonable” and claimed the BJP was the only serious alternative for the city’s growth.
The Union Minister highlighted major Central Government projects: the ₹15,627 crore Regional Ring Road Phase-1 DPR, Amberpet Flyover (₹410 crore), Uppal Corridor (₹627 crore), Aramgarh 6-lane road (₹387 crore), and the Kukatpally–BHEL Flyover (₹136 crore).
On railway development, he said Secunderabad station’s revamp was 46% done. Upgrades were underway at Charlapalli, Nampally, Kacheguda, and Lingampalli. Begumpet station’s upgrade was complete and would operate with all-women staff. Hyderabad now runs five Vande Bharat trains, with new routes to Goa and Jodhpur. MMTS Phase-2 had begun, with ₹436 crore MMTS service to Yadadri also set to start soon.
