Hyderabad: A 62-year-old retired school principal died in a fire accident at her residence in Begumpet on Saturday after her saree caught fire during prayers.
The victim, Vijayalakshmi, was lighting a lamp as part of her daily routine when the incident occurred.

According to reports, her saree caught fire accidentally while she lit the lamp. In panic, she ran inside the house, which caused the flames to spread quickly to furniture such as sofas and curtains.
Local residents noticed smoke and alerted the fire department. However, Vijayalakshmi suffered severe burn injuries and died at the scene.
Firefighters later brought the blaze under control. Police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
Vijayalakshmi had served as a government school principal and lived alone in the Shyamlal area of Begumpet.
The incident shocked residents in the neighbourhood, who described it as a tragic accident.
