Hyderabad: Police arrested a 26-year-old businessman and seized 480 bobbins of banned synthetic nylon glass-coated manja worth about ₹7.5 lakh in Hyderabad. The Commissioner’s Task Force, Charminar Zone, and Kalapattar police jointly carried out the operation.
Police identified the accused as Abhishek Singh, a resident of Puranapool. They alleged that he operated a kite shop in the Mangalhat area. According to police, Singh operated a kite shop in the Mangalhat area.
He allegedly ordered 10 cartons containing 480 bobbins for sale to retailers and customers in Hyderabad. Police said the consignment was intended for sale ahead of the Sankranti festival.
Banned Chinese manja seizure made at transport facility
Police apprehended Singh on October 6 when he arrived at Batko Transport in Kalapattar to collect the consignment. The banned Chinese manja seizure included all 480 bobbins, valued at about ₹7.5 lakh. Police also seized two mobile phones from the accused.
Investigators alleged that Singh had planned to stock and sell the prohibited manja at higher prices. During the Chinese manja seizure, officers recovered all 480 bobbins, valued at about ₹7.5 lakh. In addition, they seized two mobile phones from Singh.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of S. Saidababu, Inspector of the Charminar Zone Task Force. Task Force sub-inspectors and Kalapattar police personnel also took part.
Police said the banned Chinese manja seizure followed Singh’s arrival at the transport facility to receive the 10-carton consignment.
