Hyderabad: Mohammad Azharuddin and Professor Kodandaram will take oath as MLCs today as members of the Legislative Council following their nomination under the Governor’s quota.
The Election Commission issued the gazette notification on Sunday. Accordingly, the swearing-in ceremony will take place at 11 am at the Legislative Council office. Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy will administer the oath. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers, MLAs and MLCs, will attend the event.
MLC’s oath today brings relief to Azharuddin
For Azharuddin, the swearing-in carries immediate importance. As per constitutional rules, a minister must become a member of the legislature within six months. His deadline ends on April 30. However, by taking the oath three days earlier, he avoids the risk to his ministerial post.
Meanwhile, Professor Kodandaram will enter the Council for the first time. He played a key role as JAC chairman during the Telangana movement. In the House, he is expected to raise public concerns, including irrigation projects.
The nominations remained under suspense in recent days. However, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla approved the file and cleared the process. Following that, the Chief Electoral Officer issued the official gazette notification on Sunday, paving the way for the MLCs’ oath today.
