Ayurvedic centre reopened at Chanchalguda prison complex

Hyderabad: The Ayurvedic Village at SICA in Chanchalguda prison complex reopened after a six-year gap, with Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Dr. Soumya Mishra inaugurating the facility.

The department restored the centre as part of its reformative and welfare agenda. Officials said the revival connects correctional rehabilitation with accessible public healthcare.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Soumya Mishra said the initiative blends affordable traditional treatment with structured inmate training. She noted that the facility will offer authentic Ayurvedic therapies at nominal cost to the general public.

Ayurvedic Village to boost rehabilitation model

Under the programme, inmates will undergo systematic training in wellness therapies and related services. The department designed the centre to function both as a treatment unit and a skill-development platform.

Through hands-on instruction, prisoners will gain certified practical experience aimed at improving employability after release. Meanwhile, experienced doctors, qualified therapists and trained staff will oversee daily operations.

Senior officials including IG Prisons N. Murali Babu, DIG Hyderabad Range Dr. D. Srinivas and DIG Warangal Range M. Sampath attended the inauguration. CP Hyderabad Superintendent N. Shiva Kumar Goud, Ayurveda physicians Dr. Y.B. Ramesh and Dr. M. Gowtham, and SICA Principal S. Srinivasa Reddy were also present.

The department plans to extend this healthcare-cum-rehabilitation model to other prisons in the coming months.
