Former law minister Asif Pasha passes away at 96, Azharuddin offers condolences

Hyderabad: Former Law Minister and senior Congress leader Asif Pasha passed away on Sunday at the age of 96. He died following prolonged illness, just three days after celebrating his birthday on December 25.

Elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1972, Asif Pasha was known for his dedication to public service and minority welfare. He remained active in public life well into old age. His long political career earned him respect across party lines for his integrity and simplicity.

He is survived by his sons Zahoor Ahmed and Afaq Tanveer, and daughter Husna Anjum. According to family sources, he had been receiving treatment for heart-related issues and had faced frequent hospitalisation in recent months.

Azharuddin pays tribute to veteran Congress leader

Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammed Azharuddin visited Asif Pasha’s residence to offer his condolences. He personally met the grieving family and expressed deep sorrow over the former minister’s passing.

Azharuddin described Asif Pasha as a towering figure who devoted his life to the betterment of the community and society. “Even at an advanced age, he remained committed to public causes,” he said. He called the late leader’s contributions a guiding light for future generations.

The Minister said he regretted not visiting earlier due to legislative responsibilities but made it a priority to meet the family as soon as possible. He prayed for Allah to grant Asif Pasha the highest place in Jannat and give strength to his family during this time of loss.
