Hyderabad: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is campaigning intensively to win the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections. Its candidates have filed nominations for the posts of Kadapa Corporation Mayor and Hindupur Municipal Chairperson. A total of 21 AIMIM candidates are in the fray across the Vijayawada and Kadapa corporations and five municipalities.
AIMIM MLAs Jafar Hussain Meraj, Mohammed Mubeen and Majid Hussain, along with MLC Riyaz ul Hasan Effendi, have already campaigned for the party’s candidates. The legislators travelled from Hyderabad to drum up support for the nominees.
Owaisi advised contesting only winnable seats in AP municipal elections
Some AIMIM leaders from Andhra Pradesh recently came to Hyderabad and met party president Asaduddin Owaisi. They told him the party would certainly win if it fielded candidates in the municipal elections. Owaisi suggested contesting only in wards and divisions where victory was certain, rather than in all municipalities, and the leaders agreed.
The party selected candidates for the Kadapa Corporation Mayor post and three divisions in the Vijayawada Corporation. In Hindupur municipality, it has fielded a chairperson candidate and is contesting five wards. It has candidates in seven wards in Adoni, three in Rayadurgam, and one ward each in Nandyal and Penukonda.
