HYDERABAD: AICC Secretary Sampath Kumar reaffirmed that the Congress government in Telangana, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is committed to implementing Scheduled Caste (SC) categorisation. Speaking on the matter on Thursday, he stated that the Party Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting had reinforced classification as a fundamental Congress principle.
Kumar warned that any statements against Congress by leaders such as Vivek or others would be considered anti-party. He further indicated that disciplinary action might be taken against those who oppose the party’s stance on SC categorisation.
Addressing concerns raised by Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) leader Manda Krishna Madiga, Sampath Kumar urged him to refrain from protests. He emphasised that CM Revanth Reddy is the only chief minister to have personally presented arguments in the Supreme Court for the cause of the Madiga community.
He also stated that as soon as the Telangana government receives the One-Man Commission report, it will proceed with SC categorisation. Criticising BRS leaders Harish Rao and K.T. Rama Rao, he remarked that their statements in support of the Madiga community were contradictory and lacked sincerity.
Taking a dig at the previous BRS government, Kumar pointed out that when he proposed presenting the Usha Mehra Commission report to the Centre in the Assembly, BRS leaders did not respond for ten years.
He highlighted that Revanth Reddy was the sole leader who raised his voice for the Madiga community within the Assembly
