Hyderabad: Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman on Friday directed officials to uphold the highest standards of quality, transparency, and accountability in welfare hostels catering to SC, ST, minority, and disabled students across Telangana.
The Minister conducted a detailed review at the Secretariat with Welfare Special Chief Secretary Sabya Sachi Ghosh and department secretaries. He assessed the condition of hostels and educational institutions serving marginalised communities.
Telangana welfare hostels to get strict inspections and upgrades
Lakshman emphasised that clean living spaces, hygienic kitchens, nutritious food, and safe drinking water must be standard in every hostel. He called for strict food quality inspections, reliable supply chains, and robust oversight by concerned officials.
District officers were instructed to conduct surprise inspections and field visits to ensure hostels meet expectations and that grievances are resolved on the spot. Procurement of essentials from food grains to hostel equipment—must follow transparent, competitive processes to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
The Minister reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to student welfare, education, and empowerment, as per Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision for social equity.
To enhance accountability and safety, Lakshman directed officials to accelerate the modernisation of hostel infrastructure. Upgrades will include CCTV cameras, biometric attendance systems, and digital monitoring tools for real-time oversight.
He also stressed coordination with District Collectors to ensure timely responses to any issues that arise at the hostel level.
