Hyderabad: Government Whip Aadi Srinivas lashed out at BJP leaders, calling their opposition to the BC Bill disgraceful and politically motivated.
Responding to BJP MP Raghunandan Rao’s remarks questioning the Congress’s commitment to backward classes, Srinivas said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy—despite not belonging to a BC community—brought the Bill as a mark of his dedication to social justice.
He accused the BJP of lacking clarity on BC rights and trying to block the legislation. “Raghunandan Rao wants the BC Bill to fail. The BJP has never cared about justice for backward classes,” he said. He questioned how the BJP could attack Congress while refusing to approve the Bill passed by the Telangana Assembly.
Calling the BJP an upper-caste party that sees BCs as mere vote banks, Srinivas said Congress had committed to 42 percent reservation for backward classes. He challenged Raghunandan Rao to ask his own party why no BC has been made BJP president.
“Instead of questioning us, ask your party high command why BCs don’t lead the BJP,” Srinivas said. He rejected the allegation that Congress had failed to elevate BCs, pointing to Manmohan Singh’s two terms as Prime Minister as evidence of the party’s record on social justice.
