Hyderabad: In a significant leap toward tech-driven policing, the Hyderabad City Police have registered over 100 FIRs through their new AI-powered initiative, C-Mitra, within just ten days of its launch.
Unveiled on January 9 by Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, C-Mitra is India’s first virtual helpdesk aimed at fast-tracking justice for cybercrime victims. In its initial phase, the system has already contacted 1,000 victims and facilitated complaint registration without requiring victims to visit police stations.
AI-assisted complaint drafting streamlines process
The complaint journey begins when a victim reaches out via the 1930 cybercrime helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The C-Mitra team follows up with a phone call to understand the issue. Using AI tools, they then draft a legally sound complaint and share it with the victim via WhatsApp or email.
Victims print, sign, and mail the draft to the Basheerbagh Cyber Crime Station. Upon receipt, the FIR is registered without delay and a digital copy is sent directly to the victim.
A dedicated 24-member team operates C-Mitra in two shifts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., ensuring consistent outreach and service.
Victim-first approach praised by police team
The system has won praise for its sensitive approach. “Citizens often fear going to police stations. But when we call and assure them, you can hear the confidence in their voice,” said Deekshita, a woman constable in the team.
Another constable, Prithvika, called it a “digital revolution.” She said many victims previously struggled to draft complaints or understand legal details. “C-Mitra has solved that. Our dream is a future where cybercrime vanishes and C-Mitra is no longer needed,” she added.
