Youth in coma after suicide attempt; family blames police harassment in Peddapalli

Hyderabad: A youth in Peddapalli has been left in a coma after a suspected suicide attempt, with his family blaming police harassment for driving him to the act.

The youth had been booked during last kharif season over a clash at a paddy procurement centre. His parents claim the FIR was based on a false complaint and that police also physically assaulted him.

On Saturday, his family brought him in an ambulance to Ambedkar Chowk in Manthani town and staged a protest demanding justice.

Relatives joined the protest, alleging that police harassment in Peddapalli had led to the suicide attempt. The youth’s father, Devender, said no action or financial support had followed, despite his son’s critical condition.

Traffic was disrupted for nearly an hour due to the protest. Police later arrived and assured the family of justice before taking them to the local station.
