Woman constable dies by suicide after harassment in love dispute in Warangal

Hyderabad: A woman constable died by suicide in Warangal after allegedly facing sustained harassment from two men linked to a love dispute, police said. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Warangal Police Commissionerate.

The victim, Anita, worked in the Armed Reserve wing of the commissionerate. She belonged to Seetya Thanda in Parvathagiri mandal of Warangal district.

According to the police complaint, Rajender, a distant relative from Kommanna Palli Thanda in Torrur mandal of Mahabubabad district, had allegedly harassed Anita for four years. He reportedly promised marriage and insisted on frequent video calls during her duty hours. He also objected to her speaking freely with others.

Anita’s parents opposed the marriage due to Rajender’s behaviour. Subsequently, Rajender allegedly suspected that Anita intended to marry her friend Jabbar Lal. Police said Rajender contacted Jabbar Lal and provided false information about her.

Following this, Jabbar Lal allegedly began harassing Anita and demanded money, claiming he would marry her only if she paid him. Unable to cope with the pressure, Anita reportedly called Rajender and told him that both men had ruined her life.

Police said Rajender responded indifferently, after which Anita consumed pesticide and died by suicide.

Warangal police registered a case against Rajender and Jabbar Lal. An investigation is currently underway to establish the sequence of events and fix responsibility.
