HYDERABAD: The wave of protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill has intensified across the country. In response to a call by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), successful demonstrations were held in several cities including Delhi (Jantar Mantar), Patna, and Vijayawada.
Continuing this public resistance movement, the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of Telangana staged silent protests in various cities and districts across the state. Demonstrations were held particularly in Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar, within the premises of Eidgahs and mosques. These protests aimed to raise public awareness and defend the autonomy and rights over Waqf properties.
Faraaz Ahmed, Telangana State President of SIO, addressed the gatherings stated,
“The central government is pushing the Hindutva agenda to establish control over Waqf properties, introducing this controversial legislation solely for vote-bank politics. We categorically assert that Waqf properties are the ownership of Allah, with Muslims merely acting as trustees. Any interference is unacceptable and will be strongly resisted.”
He further warned the government and outlined a three-pronged demand for immediate action against the proposed bill.
First, he urged every member of the Muslim community to deeply understand the flaws and implications of the bill, so its true nature can be exposed.
Second, he emphasised the need to raise awareness among both Muslim and non-Muslim communities, stating that this is not merely a religious issue but a grave attack on democratic values and fundamental rights.
Third, he called for the strengthening of peaceful protests, sit-ins, and collective resistance under the guidance of the Muslim Personal Law Board to oppose the bill through practical efforts.
Several social organisations have been protesting against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill.
