Minister Vivek warns of tough measures against illegal mining in Telangana

Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek on Saturday said the Telangana government would take strict action against illegal mining operations across the state.

Speaking at a public event in Chennur, his home constituency, Vivek alleged that sand mining along the Godavari was unchecked under the previous BRS administration, with daily illegal transport by thousands of trucks. He claimed the Congress government had brought the situation under control.

This was his first visit to Chennur after taking charge as minister. Congress workers and local residents were present at the event.

Vivek said the region had substantial mineral resources and promised to generate jobs for local youth through regulated mining.

He also said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had appointed him to the Mines portfolio in recognition of his efforts to block illegal sand transport from Chennur and to improve mineral resource management for higher state revenues.
