Hyderabad: Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy assured polytechnic students that their existing academic and financial benefits would continue. He made the assurance after students raised concerns over moving polytechnics under the SHAKTI department.
The Minister met protesting students at Masab Tank Polytechnic College in Hyderabad on Friday. He heard their concerns and addressed their questions about the proposed administrative change.
Vivek Venkataswamy said the government would improve infrastructure in polytechnic colleges and introduce modern technical education. He also highlighted plans to strengthen industry links and create better employment opportunities.
The Minister assured students that their education would continue without disruption. He said AICTE recognition, examinations and diploma certificates would remain unchanged.
“There is no change in the existing fee structure. The government is also considering providing stipends to students,” he said. He added that students would not face any additional financial burden.
Polytechnic student benefits to remain unchanged
Vivek Venkataswamy also assured students that the ECET examination would continue under the existing system. Diploma holders would therefore retain the opportunity to enter the second year of B.Tech programmes through lateral entry.
He further said the recognition and value of existing diplomas would remain intact. The government, he added, wanted to enhance the value of diplomas and develop the Skill University to international standards.
The Minister also ruled out privatisation of polytechnic institutions. “There is no question of privatising polytechnic institutions,” he said, adding that they would remain under government control.
According to Vivek Venkataswamy, education, examinations, fees and student welfare would continue under government supervision. He said the proposed administrative change would not alter these arrangements.
The Minister explained that industry involvement would focus on improving employment opportunities and technical training. He said industries could also help polytechnic institutions mobilise funds through corporate social responsibility programmes.
Finally, Vivek Venkataswamy assured students that the existing fee reimbursement system would continue. He said moving polytechnics from one government department to another would not withdraw any benefits currently available to students.
