HYDERABAD, February 10: Police in Secunderabad arrested two software engineers for allegedly smuggling marijuana on Monday. The arrests occurred near Jinkana Grounds, where authorities intercepted an Innova car transporting approximately 10 kilograms of marijuana.
Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered the contraband concealed within sealed packets inside the car doors. The suspects, identified as employees of a prominent Hyderabad-based software company, were reportedly transporting the marijuana from the Andhra-Odisha border to Hyderabad for distribution.
One of the accused, Praveen Varma, allegedly resorted to smuggling to supplement his income, which he found insufficient to support his lifestyle. Investigations revealed that Varma would arrange for the marijuana to be transported in the modified vehicle, occasionally switching drivers en route to evade detection.
Authorities have seized the marijuana, the Innova car, and mobile phones from the suspects. The police are conducting further investigations to uncover additional details and potential accomplices involved in the smuggling operation.
