Hyderabad: Police investigation continues into the death of TV anchor Swetcha, who was found dead under circumstances that her family has termed suspicious. A case of suspicious death has been registered following a formal complaint from her parents.
Swetcha’s father, Shankar, alleged that a man named Poornachander had been harassing his daughter for the last three years and held him directly responsible for her suicide. According to Shankar, Poornachander had persistently pursued Swetcha, promising marriage, and subjected her to continued emotional distress.
Shankar said that although Swetcha had initially agreed to the marriage, frequent arguments had strained the relationship. He stated that she recently told Poornachander she no longer wished to continue with him. Shankar said he was called home by his daughter on June 26 after another dispute between the two.
He said Swetcha had clearly stated she would not continue the relationship. “She was mentally disturbed due to his constant pressure. She ended her life because of that,” Shankar told reporters.
Postmortem on Swetcha’s body was completed at Gandhi Hospital. Her remains were scheduled to be shifted shortly to Parsigutta in Ramnagar for cremation later today. Police were deployed outside the hospital during the postmortem.
Leaders from BRS and civil society organisations visited the hospital and met Swetcha’s grieving father. Despite their personal grief, Swetcha’s family donated her eyes. Medical staff at Gandhi Hospital have collected the corneas for transplant.
