Hyderabad: A POCSO court in Rajendranagar sentenced a tuition teacher to ten years in jail for raping a 13-year-old minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 and ordered compensation of ₹3 lakh for the victim.
According to police, the accused, Dronam Raju Subrahmanyeswara Rao (59), a resident of Hyderguda in the Rajendranagar police limits, had been conducting tuition classes at his home. The victim, a student from the same locality, attended his classes regularly.
In 2017, Rao sexually assaulted the girl at his residence. The victim later informed her family, who lodged a complaint with Rajendranagar police. Officers registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and produced the accused before the court.
After a prolonged trial and examination of evidence, the Rajendranagar POCSO Court convicted the accused. The judge pronounced a 10-year prison sentence, imposed a ₹5,000 fine, and directed the government to pay ₹3 lakh compensation to the survivor.
Police officials said the verdict underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring justice in crimes against women and children.
