TPCC leaders seek graduate voter enrolment extension of four weeks in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders sought a four-week graduate voter enrolment extension ahead of the upcoming Graduate MLC elections, citing registration difficulties and inadequate public awareness.

TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee chairman Pulipati Rajesh Kumar and State SIR coordinator Gampa Venugopal submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy.

They urged the Chief Electoral Officer to extend the November 6 registration deadline by four weeks. Additionally, they sought changes to simplify the enrolment process for eligible graduates.

The leaders said many graduates could miss the deadline because of limited awareness and difficulties obtaining the required documents. They also raised concerns about the mandatory attestation of degree certificates by Gazetted Officers, which they said complicated registration.

Graduate voter enrolment extension sought to ease registration

The TPCC representatives urged election authorities to introduce online verification or permit self-attestation of degree certificates wherever existing rules allowed. They also called for wider awareness campaigns to inform eligible graduates about the enrolment process and registration deadline.

Accordingly, they requested outreach programmes in colleges, IT parks and rural areas to improve participation. The leaders stressed the need to make the registration process easier for graduates across the constituencies covered by the upcoming elections.

They specifically sought measures to increase graduate voter participation in the Mahabubnagar–Rangareddy–Hyderabad and Warangal–Khammam–Nalgonda constituencies. Separately, Rajesh Kumar and Venugopal raised concerns over reports that around five lakh voters had been removed from electoral rolls through Form 7 applications.

They said the reported deletions had occurred before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and required a thorough examination. The TPCC leaders requested clarification on whether the Form 7 applications had been generated using artificial intelligence or submitted physically.

Furthermore, they urged election authorities to review the reported deletions and provide details about the applications. They stressed that transparency and accuracy in electoral rolls were necessary to maintain confidence in the electoral process.

The leaders asked the Election Commission to take immediate steps to address enrolment difficulties and improve graduate voter participation. Their representation combined the demand for a graduate voter enrolment extension with a request for scrutiny of the reported Form 7 deletions.
