HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has issued a significant alert to its electricity consumers regarding cyber fraud activities. On Thursday, TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Farooqui cautioned consumers against sharing their bank account details, credit, or debit card information with anyone and advised against clicking on suspicious links for electricity bill payments.
TGSPDCL has become aware that certain cybercriminals are sending fake messages to consumers, claiming that due to non-payment of the previous month’s bill, electricity supply will be disconnected after 7:30 PM. These messages instruct consumers to contact via WhatsApp for bill payment issues. Believing these messages to be genuine, several consumers have fallen victim to these scams.
These fraudsters, posing as electricity department officials, collect bank account details, credit, and debit card information from consumers and subsequently withdraw large sums of money from their accounts. TGSPDCL clarified that they never send messages or links from mobile numbers and do not disconnect power supply during nighttime for unpaid bills.
Consumers with doubts regarding electricity bill payments are advised to visit the official TGSPDCL website at www.tgsouthernpower.org or use the TGSPDCL mobile app to obtain accurate information and resolve issues directly, thereby avoiding falling prey to cybercriminals.
