Hyderabad: The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has initiated action on complaints about air pollution from construction projects in and around Nanakramguda and Kokapet. The Board has constituted Rolling Task Force teams to examine environmental compliance and the air pollution control measures at these projects. It is also carrying out intensified inspections and monitoring.
The Task Force Committee reviewed the environmental compliance status of 19 construction projects in Nanakramguda and Kokapet on Saturday. The review meeting took place at the TGPCB Head Office, and representatives of the projects attended.
After a detailed review of each project, the Committee recommended environmental compensation for projects with major non-compliances. It also recommended forfeiting the Bank Guarantees that certain projects had furnished, where it found minor non-compliances.
Closure orders recommended for two RMC plants
The Committee also recommended Closure Orders for two captive Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants associated with construction projects. These plants operate without the Consent for Operation orders that the Telangana Pollution Control Board requires.
The Committee further recommended directing non-complying projects to take corrective measures. They must rectify the identified non-compliances within 10 days.
Following these recommendations, the Board will issue orders for the levy of Environmental Compensation and the forfeiture of Bank Guarantees. It will also direct non-complying projects to rectify the violations. The Board will issue Closure Orders to the two captive RMC plants operating without its Consent for Operation.
