Hyderabad: The Telangana government decided to allow vehicle registration at authorised dealer showrooms. With this move, buyers no longer need to visit RTA offices for permanent registration.
The decision followed directions issued by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during a review meeting with transport officials on December 19. Based on those instructions, the transport department initiated reforms.
Transport Commissioner Ilambarti issued orders on Thursday. He asked officials to complete the required software within 15 days.
Under the new system, authorised dealers will complete permanent vehicle registration at their showrooms. Earlier, buyers had to visit RTA offices after completing temporary registration at dealerships.
Officials said complaints of delays and alleged corruption at RTA offices led to the reform.
Vehicle registration process to shift fully to dealers
Officials said several states already allow dealer-level registrations through the Vahan and Sarathi portals. However, these platforms may take up to six months to become fully operational in Telangana.
Due to this delay, the department decided to develop separate software for immediate implementation.
Under the new system, buyers must apply for permanent vehicle registration at authorised dealerships. They need to upload documents such as the invoice, Form 21, and Form 22.
Applicants must also submit insurance documents, address proof, and a declaration stating they do not own another vehicle. In addition, they must upload scanned photographs, signatures, and images of engine and chassis numbers.
The registering authority will verify the documents online. Based on scrutiny, officials will approve or reject applications as per the rules.
After approval, the registration certificate will reach buyers through speed post.
Officials said vehicle inspectors, RTOs, DTOs, JTCs, or the Transport Commissioner could inspect dealer premises at any time. These checks will ensure compliance and verify vehicle stock.
