Hyderabad: On the 12th Telangana State Formation Day on Monday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy delivered a sweeping address outlining his government’s ambitious plans to revitalise governance, empower women, support farmers, and position Hyderabad as a hub for global investments.
Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy paid tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana and acknowledged Sonia Gandhi’s role in granting statehood. He said that while statehood was achieved after decades of struggle, the promise of a prosperous, inclusive Telangana had not been fully realised in the last decade.
“Telangana was born out of a struggle for self-respect and opportunity,” Revanth Reddy said. “But the people’s aspirations were stifled under a dictatorial regime that dismantled institutions and ruined the state’s economy. My government is committed to rebuilding Telangana from the ground up.”
Revanth Reddy said his administration, which took office in December 2023, inherited a fractured system and a debt-ridden economy. Since then, he said, his government had prioritised restoring governance and ensuring transparency. Vice Chancellors have been appointed to universities after years of neglect, and the Telangana State Public Service Commission was reformed to conduct timely competitive exams and fill government vacancies.
Emphasising women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister announced the rollout of the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, aimed at transforming one crore women into entrepreneurs over the next five years with Rs one lakh crore in loans. He said the first year alone had seen disbursement of Rs 21,000 crore. The government is also facilitating women’s participation in public services, allocating petrol pumps, Mahila Shakti canteens, and even opportunities in solar power generation. “We want our women to become entrepreneurs who can challenge corporate giants,” Revanth Reddy said.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the state’s efforts to ease the burden on farmers, announcing the waiver of Rs 20,617 crore in farm loans for over 25 lakh farmers a promise fulfilled within eight months of taking office. He said the government had ensured uninterrupted free power to the agricultural sector at a cost of Rs 15,333 crore and introduced a Rs 500 bonus on fine variety paddy, resulting in record paddy production of 268 lakh metric tonnes. “We are procuring every grain from farmers and protecting them from middlemen,” he said.
Turning to youth employment, the Chief Minister noted that over 60,000 government jobs had been filled since his administration took office. He said recruitment drives were conducted in sectors including education, health, irrigation, energy, and police. The government, he said, was also providing Rs 1 lakh in financial aid to civil services aspirants and had established a Young India Skills University to enhance employability.
On infrastructure development, Revanth Reddy said Telangana was positioning itself as an investment magnet. Major global companies, including Google, Microsoft, and HCL, had expanded operations in Hyderabad, he said, while agreements worth over Rs 3 lakh crore had been signed during visits to Davos, Singapore, and Japan. Projects such as the Metro Rail’s second phase, the Regional Ring Road, and the 30,000-acre Future City project would further strengthen Hyderabad’s role as an economic hub.
The Chief Minister also underscored the government’s commitment to social justice. He announced that Telangana had completed its caste census, finding that backward classes comprised over 50 per cent of the state’s population. Legislation had been passed to raise BC quotas to 42 per cent, and the Centre had taken inspiration from Telangana’s approach.
Revanth Reddy also spoke about housing and poverty alleviation, highlighting the construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses with an outlay of Rs 22,500 crore. He said Rs 5 lakh was being provided to each beneficiary and that Rs 53.64 crore had already been disbursed. “We have adopted a transparent process to ensure deserving families benefit,” he said.
The Fine Rice scheme, which benefits three crore people, was described as a “matter of self-respect” for the poor. Revanth Reddy shared his personal experience dining with a beneficiary family in Khammam district, describing it as a moment of deep satisfaction.
On law and order, the Chief Minister said the Telangana Police had been recognised as the best in the country according to the India Justice Report 2025. He lauded the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing for winning an award in Dubai and reiterated his government’s commitment to tackling the drug menace.
Concluding his speech, Revanth Reddy laid out the ‘Telangana Raising-2047’ action plan, aimed at transforming the state into a one trillion dollar economy within the next decade and a three trillion dollar economy by the centenary of India’s independence. “We have a clear vision to make Telangana the most developed state in the country,” he said.
