Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand outlined the state police force’s security initiatives, operational achievements and future plans at the Southern Regional Police Coordination Committee (SRPCC) meeting in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy attended the high-level meeting as the chief guest. Telangana police security measures against extremism, drug trafficking and cybercrime featured prominently in the DGP’s briefing.
Addressing the meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Anand praised the Telangana Greyhounds for earning a strong reputation across the country. He highlighted the force’s role in the state’s security framework. He also outlined specialised units established to tackle different threats.
Referring to past bomb blasts in Hyderabad, the DGP said the state had established the Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) to prevent and combat terrorist activities. In addition, the police created the Eagle Force to strengthen the campaign against drug trafficking and narcotics use.
Anand said the Union Home Ministry had recognised the Telangana police’s efforts to control drugs and presented awards for their work. He cited this recognition while describing the state’s enforcement initiatives.
Telangana police security measures target cybercrime and extremism
As cybercrime patterns evolved, the state established the Cyber Security Bureau to tackle emerging digital threats. The unit forms part of the police department’s broader effort to adapt its operations to changing security challenges.
Anand also reported a major decline in Naxal activity across Telangana. According to the DGP, the state had recently reached a “zero Naxals state” status. He said 824 Naxals had surrendered so far and handed over 302 weapons to the police.
The DGP further highlighted the role of the Integrated Command and Control Centre in responding to natural disasters. He said the centre had helped the authorities deliver effective public services during such emergencies.
Meanwhile, the police department continued updating an application used by its personnel to improve operational efficiency through technology. Anand said the force was adopting digital tools to support its work and strengthen coordination.
Women’s safety remained another priority, he said. The department had introduced specific measures to protect women while maintaining law and order across the state.
The DGP’s presentation covered specialised security units, anti-naxal efforts, drug enforcement, cybercrime prevention, disaster response and technology adoption. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy attended the SRPCC meeting at the ICCC in Hyderabad.
