Telangana police crack down on drug networks, bust 62 gangs in 2025

Hyderabad: Telangana police intensified their drug network crackdown in 2025, busting 62 drug gangs and arresting 171 accused based on intelligence inputs from the State Counter Intelligence (CI) wing, officials said.

According to police, the operations delivered a major blow to organised drug trafficking networks in the State. Acting on specific intelligence, the CI wing coordinated with multiple agencies and carried out raids throughout the year. Officials confirmed that some of the arrested accused were foreign nationals.

Further, police records showed that CI-led operations continued across 2025. The teams targeted supply chains, local distributors and consumption hubs. As a result, officials said the action disrupted established drug routes in Telangana.

Special New Year checks in Hyderabad

Meanwhile, ahead of New Year celebrations, police stepped up anti-drug surveillance in Hyderabad. Teams from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and the Eagle Force conducted surprise inspections at pubs, clubs and bars.

To strengthen enforcement, police formed 10 special teams to monitor nightlife zones. In one recent operation, Cyberabad police and the Eagle Force jointly raided a DJ party. They identified eight individuals who had consumed drugs. Officials said all of them were already on police watchlists.

In another development, H-NEW teams carried out inspections on December 27 and 28. During the checks, police screened 65 individuals. One person tested positive for ganja consumption.

However, officials clarified that their approach focuses on prevention and rehabilitation. Instead of punishment, police inform parents and arrange counselling and de-addiction support.

Finally, police said special checks will continue across Hyderabad. The aim is to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations and prevent drug use during late-night events.
