2,731 drunk driving cases booked during New Year checks across Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Drunk driving cases hit a record during New Year celebrations, with police booking 2,731 motorists across Greater Hyderabad during special night checks.

Police carried out drunk driving checks across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates as part of New Year enforcement. The drive aimed to stop accidents and keep roads safe during celebrations.

In several areas, drunk motorists created trouble and refused breath tests. However, police acted quickly and brought the situation under control.

Drunk driving cases across three commissionerates

According to official figures, police booked 1,198 cases under the Hyderabad City Police limits. At the same time, the Cyberabad Police registered 928 cases.

Meanwhile, police under the Malkajgiri Police booked 605 offenders during the special drive. In total, police took legal action against 2,731 people for drunk driving.

Police officials said the checks focused on preventing accidents and saving lives during the festive rush. They added that strict action against drunk driving would continue in the coming days.

Officials also asked people to act responsibly, avoid drinking before driving, and cooperate with police to keep roads safe across Greater Hyderabad.
