Hyderabad: The Telangana municipal results reflected growing public support for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and dissatisfaction with the ruling Congress government, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao claimed on Friday. He said the outcome signalled a shift in voter sentiment across urban local bodies in the State.
Addressing the media, Rama Rao alleged that the ruling party misused administrative machinery and money power during the polls. Despite this, he claimed, the BRS secured significant victories and emerged as a key political force in several municipalities. He stated that the electorate delivered a strong message through the Telangana municipal results.
According to him, unlike traditional trends that favour ruling parties in local elections, voters did not extend such advantage this time. Instead, he claimed, the BRS won around 15 municipalities and gained influence in several others across the State. He added that the party emerged as an influential force in multiple urban local bodies.
Telangana municipal results strengthen BRS position
Rama Rao recalled that in the recent Panchayat elections, nearly 40 per cent of Gram Panchayats were won by BRS-backed candidates. He further stated that over 4,000 Sarpanch posts were secured by candidates supported by the party. Therefore, he said, the Telangana municipal results had further strengthened the BRS position.
Comparing the outcome with the 2020 municipal elections, he noted that the then Telangana Rashtra Samithi had won 122 mayor and chairperson posts out of 130. In contrast, he said, the current Telangana municipal results showed the BRS directly winning over 15 municipalities. Additionally, he claimed, the party emerged as the single largest formation in around 10 to 15 municipalities where it held decisive influence.
Overall, he described the outcome across 117 municipalities as politically significant and favourable to the BRS. He maintained that the results demonstrated rising public support for the party.
Rama Rao also alleged that Congress leaders attempted to lure elected members after the polls. He asserted that the BRS would counter such moves both politically and legally. Furthermore, he thanked party cadres and supporters for their efforts during the elections.
He said the Telangana municipal results reinforced the BRS as the primary opposition force in Telangana. He added that the party was capable of challenging Congress in the State and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level.
