Telangana High Court quashes 2019 Huzurnagar bypoll case against CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy received relief from the Telangana High Court after it quashed a criminal case filed against him in connection with the 2019 Huzurnagar by-election.

The case was registered at the Garidepalli police station, alleging that then Congress leaders Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy held an election meeting in Ponugode without permission. Revanth Reddy, listed as A2, filed a quash petition stating that the case was false and unsupported by evidence.

Telangana High Court cites lack of proof in election code violation

Justice K. Laxman, hearing the petition on Monday, observed that there was no proof to substantiate the charges under the sections invoked for alleged violation of the election code. The court accordingly set aside the case.

In a separate matter, Revanth Reddy also secured relief in a 2021 case filed at the Kamalapur police station in Hanumakonda district. That case alleged that he conducted a meeting with 2,500 party workers in violation of COVID-19 guidelines and the election code. The High Court granted him an exemption from personal appearance before the Nampally MP/MLA court in the matter.
