Telangana heavy rains forecast for several districts, Yellow Alert issued

Hyderabad: The Meteorological Department forecast Telangana heavy rains across several districts on Sunday and Monday and warned residents to remain alert.

Officials said moderate to heavy rainfall was expected because of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Gusty winds were also likely to accompany the rainfall.

The department issued a rainfall forecast covering the eastern and northern parts of Telangana. Moderate rain was likely in Adilabad, Asifabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Peddapalli and Karimnagar districts.

Meanwhile, officials issued a Yellow Alert for Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Mahabubabad districts. Heavy rainfall was also expected in Warangal, Nizamabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

Telangana heavy rains likely in Hyderabad

Meteorological officials said moderate to heavy rainfall was also likely in different parts of Hyderabad. The city remained under overcast conditions since Sunday morning. Moreover, officials anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall in several localities during the afternoon and night.

Authorities advised Hyderabad residents to remain alert because of the expected rainfall and strong winds. Officials said gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 kmph and 50 kmph were likely during the rains. Therefore, they urged people to exercise caution while moving outdoors.

The public was advised against taking shelter under trees during rain and gusty winds. Officials also cautioned people against standing near electricity poles and hoardings. Instead, residents were advised to move to safer locations when strong winds and rainfall affected their areas.

The Telangana heavy rains forecast followed the formation of the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The weather system was expected to influence rainfall conditions across several parts of the State.

Telangana heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds

The Meteorological Department particularly warned about gusty winds accompanying the rainfall. Wind speeds could reach between 40 kmph and 50 kmph in affected areas.

Officials consequently asked residents to exercise additional caution around trees, electric poles and hoardings. They advised people to seek safer locations during periods of intense rain and strong winds.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department also forecast heavy rainfall in several districts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning were likely in parts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, officials said.
