Hyderabad: With the monsoon season looming, Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has ordered health and power officials to make sure every government hospital in the state has round-the-clock electricity, critical for keeping medical services running smoothly, especially in emergencies.
At a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat in Hyderabad, Rajanarasimha stressed the need for close coordination between the health and power departments to ensure uninterrupted power supply. He warned that any disruption in power could endanger patients’ lives, particularly in critical care units.
The minister also took stock of the power backup systems in place. Hospitals that already have generators were asked to review their performance, while those without them were told to install automated generators as soon as possible. He also directed officials to bring in temporary electrical engineers to keep a constant watch on power management in hospitals.
Turning his attention to seasonal health threats, Rajanarasimha asked health officials to step up their game against dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. He said hospitals must be stocked with COVID-19 test kits, medicines, and other essentials well before the rains hit.
Officials from the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) were told to ensure the timely procurement of these supplies. The minister warned that no hospital should run out of critical medicines or equipment. He also urged all departments to work together and maintain strict hygiene standards.
