Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday issued notices to BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and B. Naveen Kumar Reddy. The case involved alleged abuse of Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The High Court acted on a police petition against an earlier Nampally court order. That order had said the two MLCs should not be arrested. The police asked the High Court to set aside the lower court’s order. Therefore, the dispute before the court concerned the protection given to the two legislators.
Public Prosecutor Nageswara Rao appeared for the police. He submitted that Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy had allegedly used abusive language against the Speaker. Rao said the Speaker held a constitutional post. He also alleged that the two BRS MLCs had attacked police personnel on duty.
Notices to BRS MLCs followed police challenge
The notices to BRS MLCs followed the police challenge to the Nampally court order. The High Court then sought replies from Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy. The court directed both MLCs to file their counters. It also fixed September 23 for the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the prosecution placed two sets of allegations before the court. One concerned the alleged abusive language used against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The other concerned the alleged attack on police personnel while they were on duty. However, Monday’s proceedings did not decide those allegations.
Instead, the High Court issued notices to BRS MLCs and sought their counters. It also adjourned the matter for further hearing. Thus, the police plea against the Nampally court order remained pending before the High Court. The court fixed September 23 for further proceedings in the matter.
