HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has cancelled the Indian citizenship of former BRS MLA Chenamaneni Ramesh, declaring that he is a German national. The court also imposed a fine of ₹30 lakh on Ramesh, ordering him to pay ₹25 lakh to petitioner Addi Srinivas and ₹5 lakh to the High Court Legal Services Committee.
The court ruled that Ramesh had misled authorities and the judiciary for 15 years using forged documents. He had acquired German citizenship in the 1990s and applied for Indian citizenship in 2008, but failed to provide any evidence of renouncing his German nationality.
Ramesh has accepted the court’s verdict and paid the ₹30 lakh fine. His counsel submitted a demand draft of ₹25 lakh to Addi Srinivas in the High Court.
The judgment is being seen as a significant step towards ensuring transparency and adherence to legal requirements in the Indian electoral system.
