Telangana government forms panel to probe land irregularities across districts
Hyderabad: The Telangana government formed a committee to probe land irregularities linked to issues raised under Section 22-A of the Registration Act. The panel will examine 13 specified cases across Siddipet, Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts.
The government issued G.O.Ms.No.134 on September 23, 2026. The order followed a short discussion in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on September 16 on issues relating to Section 22-A.
A Sridevasena, IAS, Commissioner, Collegiate and Technical Education, will chair the committee. Meanwhile, Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu, IAS, Special Secretary to Government, Revenue (Stamps and Registration), will serve as convenor.
Sandeep Kumar Jha, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate of Jangaon, will serve as a member. In addition, the Collector and District Magistrate of the concerned district will serve on the panel.
The committee will examine violations of statutes, Acts, rules and government orders. It will also investigate matters connected with the lands identified in the annexure to the GO.
Land irregularities probe covers four cases in Siddipet
First, the case concerns lands belonging to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, his family members and associates. The specified locations are Erravalli, Markook and Sivar Venkatapur in Markook mandal of Siddipet district.
Next, the second case covers lands belonging to former minister T Harish Rao, his family members and associates. The government identified Ramancha in Chinnakodur mandal for this inquiry.
The properties listed in the order are adjacent to the Ranganayaka Sagar Reservoir. Accordingly, the committee will examine the land issue specified in the annexure.
The third case concerns the purchase of assigned land by M Hanumantha Rao. For this case, the government identified Survey No. 271 at Velikatta in Kondapak mandal.
The fourth case involves allegations of irregularities in land acquisition for the Mallanna Sagar Reservoir. The specified villages are Etigadda Kistapur, Pallepahad, Rampur and Tukkapur in Toguta mandal.
The annexure identifies the complaint as having been given by late S Ramalinga Reddy, a former MLA. Therefore, the committee will examine the land acquisition issue listed in the government order.
Land irregularities probe extends to Rangareddy properties
The fifth case concerns lands belonging to Satabisha Agro and other companies. It also covers lands purchased by family members and associates of former minister K Taraka Rama Rao.
For this inquiry, the government identified Janwada in Shankarpalle mandal of Rangareddy district.
Similarly, the sixth case concerns lands belonging to former minister G Jagadishwar Reddy, his family members and associates. The specified location is Maddur in Shabad mandal.
The seventh case covers lands belonging to former minister T Harish Rao, his family members and associates. Here, the government identified Aziznagar in Moinabad mandal.
The eighth case concerns the purchase and alleged illegal occupation of assigned land by former MLA P Rohith Reddy. The order also identifies Aziznagar for this inquiry.
Meanwhile, the ninth case involves allegations of irregular purchase and occupation of government land by former minister Gangula Kamalakar and others. The specified location is Bahadurguda in Shamshabad mandal.
The tenth case concerns an allegation of irregular purchase of Bhoodan land by MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and others. For this matter, the government identified Vattinagulapally in Gandipet mandal.
The eleventh case involves an allegation of irregular purchase of land in Shankara Hills by former minister Gangula Kamalakar and others. Likewise, the order identifies Vattinagulapally as the location.
The twelfth case concerns the purchase of Bhoodan land at Thimmapur in Kandukur mandal of Rangareddy district.
Hyderabad lease land also comes under land irregularities probe
Finally, the thirteenth case concerns regularisation of lease land linked to former MLC Elvin Stephenson. The government identified Zeera Lands in Secunderabad mandal of Hyderabad district.
Beyond the 13 specified cases, the committee’s terms of reference cover several categories of land. These include government, ceiling surplus, assigned, jagir, Bhoodan, inam and forest lands.
In addition, the panel will examine land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement issues. Water bodies, their catchment areas and land records will also come under scrutiny.
The committee will fix responsibility for violations, if any. Subsequently, it will recommend appropriate action wherever warranted.
The panel can also examine matters connected with the listed issues. Moreover, the government can refer additional matters to the committee from time to time.
The government has given the committee powers to requisition records, documents, data and information. It can also seek assistance from government departments, heads of departments, district collectors, local bodies, corporations and other government authorities.
At the same time, the order directs all concerned departments and authorities to cooperate fully. They must provide the records, data and information sought by the committee promptly.
The committee must submit its report to the government expeditiously. It can also submit interim reports on specific issues when necessary.
