Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro services will run until 1 am on September 26 to help devotees travelling for Ganesh immersion celebrations. The extended service will apply on September 25.
Metro officials said the last trains would leave all terminal stations at 1 am. The extension aims to help devotees returning after the immersion festivities.
Authorities expect large crowds in Hyderabad as devotees gather for the Ganesh immersion. Consequently, traffic restrictions and heavy congestion are likely on major city roads.
Officials have advised people attending the celebrations to use public transport. This will help them avoid difficulties linked to traffic restrictions, parking and vehicle movement.
Hyderabad Metro services continue as immersion crowds gather
Large numbers of Ganesh idols will move towards Hussain Sagar in processions from different parts of Hyderabad. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the celebrations.
The Khairatabad Mahaganapathi will be among the major attractions during the immersion. In addition, thousands of other idols will reach Hussain Sagar for immersion.
People from Hyderabad and other areas are expected to gather to watch the processions. As a result, major roads could experience significant traffic pressure.
At the same time, authorities expect restrictions on vehicle movement in several areas. Parking could also become difficult for people arriving in private vehicles.
Therefore, Metro officials have encouraged devotees to use the extended services. The longer operating hours will provide an additional public transport option during the festivities.
The final Metro trains will leave all terminal stations at 1 am on September 26. Hyderabad Metro services will thus remain available later than usual on September 25.
