For Telangana, GDP means ‘Gross empowerment of people’: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu on Friday said the Telangana government sees GDP as “Gross Empowerment of People,” not just Gross Domestic Product.

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Regional Council Meeting in Hyderabad, he outlined a bold economic vision grounded in innovation and equity.

The Minister said Telangana aims to be a major driver in India’s goal of becoming a USD 15 trillion economy. He noted that the State’s development rests on three pillars: the Urban Engine, the Industrial Heartland, and the Rural Transformation Zone.

“Our model combines speed, transparency, and innovation,” he said. Hyderabad’s GDP, he added, is expected to reach USD 350 billion by 2035. The city will evolve into a global hub for sustainability and smart living.

Sridhar Babu also said Telangana plans to generate 20 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. The corridor between the Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road will be developed as an industrial hub, designed to tap into the global “China + 1” strategy.

To empower farmers, the government will promote agri-processing clusters and digitally connected MSMEs. He also highlighted Hyderabad’s expanding innovation ecosystem, including AI City, AI Innovation Hub, Image Towers, and T-Hub Phase 2.

Emphasizing regional cooperation, Sridhar Babu urged southern States to build a joint manufacturing base that competes globally. He invited investors to choose Telangana, assuring them of policy stability and a dedicated industry–government coordination system.

Senior CII leaders, including Chairman Thomas John Muthoot, Deputy Chairman Ravichandran, and Telangana Council members, were present at the event.
