Telangana aims to be capital of Blue–Green Economy: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Telangana Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday said the State aims to lead India’s Blue–Green Economy by integrating climate-resilient urban development with large-scale environmental restoration. Telangana eyes Blue–Green initiatives to achieve this goal.

He made the statement at the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 during a panel discussion on “Musi Rejuvenation & Blue–Green Infrastructure in Hyderabad.” This shows Telangana’s focus on Blue-Green infrastructure.

The Minister stressed that modern urban planning must go beyond buildings and roads. It must also ensure clean air, clean water, and ecological balance, elements that are central as Telangana eyes Blue–Green developments.

Musi River, lakes, and eco parks form core strategy

The government is advancing a multi-pronged strategy. It includes the Musi River Rejuvenation Programme, the HYDRAA initiative for urban water bodies, and the Net Zero Bharat Future City framework.

To revitalise the Musi, Telangana will draw water from the Godavari. This plan aims to restore the river as a long-term freshwater source.

Meanwhile, the HYDRAA project continues to gain public trust. “Many who doubted HYDRA in the beginning are now among its strongest supporters,” Sridhar Babu said.

He also pointed to urban forest projects. The 85-acre Kotwal Guda Eco Park, for instance, now shelters 8,000 birds across 19 rare species. These efforts, he noted, set new ecological benchmarks as Telangana eyes Blue–Green growth.

Vision 2047 aligns urban growth with environment

The Minister said Vision 2047 places environmental sustainability at the heart of Telangana’s development agenda. While some decisions may seem difficult today, they are crucial for safeguarding the future.

Through this strategy, the government aims to improve quality of life and boost economic resilience. Telangana, he added, intends to become a national model for sustainable cities.
