Telangana auto-rickshaw fares revised, minimum fare set at ₹30

Hyderabad: Telangana auto-rickshaw fares were revised on Friday, with the Transport department fixing the minimum fare at ₹30 for the first 1.6 kilometres. The new rate sets the fare at ₹14 for every subsequent kilometre.

Under the revised Telangana auto-rickshaw fares, waiting charges will stand at 75 paise per minute. Meanwhile, luggage charges will cost 50 paise, subject to a maximum permissible weight of 100 kg.

A night surcharge will also apply between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. During these hours, passengers will pay 1.5 times the standard fare.

Officials said the revised fare structure aimed to balance rising operating costs with the livelihoods of auto-rickshaw drivers. At the same time, the department considered passenger affordability while fixing the new rates.

The Transport department has also introduced a requirement for digital meters. Accordingly, all auto-rickshaw drivers must install digital meters within three months.

Telangana auto-rickshaw fares linked to welfare measures

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar described auto drivers as an important part of the State’s public transport network. He said the government would continue to address their welfare and operational concerns.

In addition, Prabhakar announced that the government would soon begin the process of establishing a dedicated welfare board for auto-rickshaw workers. He said the government gave equal importance to the welfare of auto workers and RTC employees.

The fares revision came alongside these regulatory measures. The government said the changes sought to address operating costs while keeping passenger fares affordable.

The new fare structure will apply across Telangana, with the revised minimum, kilometre, waiting, luggage and night charges forming the basis for auto-rickshaw fares in the State.
