Telangana assembly session to begin Monday with key bills, water debate

Hyderabad: The Telangana assembly session is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, with tributes planned for former MLAs Ramreddy Damodarreddy and Konda Laxmareddy. The government will introduce several key bills and documents related to reforms in GHMC, Panchayat Raj, and state employment policy.

Among the scheduled items are ordinances on Telangana GST amendments, employee rationalisation, and revised pay structures. Audit reports, including those from Telangana Samagra Shiksha and PM Schools for Rising India, will also be presented.

GHMC expansion, Panchayat reforms on agenda

A major bill will propose expanding GHMC wards from 150 to 300 due to the merger of municipalities within ORR limits. Another item seeks to remove the two-child norm for local body elections. The session will also take up Panchayat Raj gazette notifications and the Horticulture Development Agency’s annual accounts.

Following Monday’s session, both Houses are likely to adjourn until January 2. No proceedings are expected during Vaikuntha Ekadashi, New Year’s Eve, or January 1. Business Advisory Committees will meet after adjournment to determine the session’s length, which may extend up to four days.

A key debate is expected on Krishna and Godavari water allocations, particularly concerning the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project. The state claims it sought temporary approval for 45 TMC under tribunal review. The BRS, however, alleges that only 45 TMC was requested, accusing the Congress of compromising Telangana’s water rights.
